UNDERSTANDING BAG-ON-VALVE

Bag-on-Valve is a packaging and dispensing technology that separates the product formulation from the propellant using an internal flexible bag.

Conceptual BOV structure

AEROSOL CAN / CONTAINER; PRODUCT inside the INTERNAL BAG; COMPRESSED AIR / PROPELLANT AREA outside the bag; VALVE; ACTUATOR. The bag connects to valve and actuator. External gas applies pressure around the bag and does not flow into the product.

How Bag-on-Valve works

  1. 01 — PRODUCT IS CONTAINED WITHIN THE BAG

The product formulation is held inside the internal flexible bag, which connects to the valve at the top of the pack.

  2. 02 — PROPELLANT / COMPRESSED GAS SURROUNDS THE BAG

The pressurising medium occupies the area between the internal bag and the aerosol can.

  3. 03 — PRESSURE ACTS ON THE BAG

Pressure from the surrounding area acts on the outside of the flexible bag rather than entering the product pathway.

  4. 04 — THE PRODUCT IS DISPENSED THROUGH THE VALVE

When the actuator is used, product follows the path from the bag through the valve and out of the pack.

  5. 05 — PRODUCT AND PROPELLANT REMAIN SEPARATED

The bag maintains a separated product zone and external pressurising zone throughout the conceptual operating arrangement.

Why BOV?

Product separation

The internal bag keeps the product formulation separate from the external propellant or compressed-gas area.

Controlled dispensing

Dispensing characteristics depend on the selected bag, valve, actuator and formulation and should be assessed for the final configuration.

Flexible product applications

The format can be considered for a range of product applications, subject to formulation, material and packaging requirements.

Potential multi-angle dispensing

Multi-angle dispensing may be possible depending on the confirmed configuration and suitability assessment.

Adaptability across multiple industries

Bag-on-Valve can be explored across multiple industries, subject to application needs and applicable regulatory requirements.

Performance and regulatory suitability must be assessed for the full configuration. No universal evacuation, medical or environmental outcome is asserted.
